Product information "Cistus / cardoon root"
Helps with viruses / fungi / bacteria / Borrelia (also as protection against tick infestation and Lyme disease).
Cistus (Cistus Incanus) has been a popular medicinal plant since ancient times, the herb was used as a tea for sore throat even then. The resin was used for incense and as a beauty and healing agent. "Gray-haired cistus" is a perennial evergreen shrub that can grow up to one meter high. The leaves of the cistus secrete a resin that spreads an intense fragrance, especially on hot summer days.
Active ingredients are essential oils and their components (borneol, cineol, eugenol, ledol, limonene), resin (ladanum) and an unusually high content of polyphenols.
Cistus is considered stimulating, antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, menstrual, antifungal, expectorant and tonic. In addition, cistus is said to be able to strengthen the immune system and neutralize free radicals.
According to current findings, the spiral-like Borrelia bacteria that trigger Lyme disease are agglutinated and rendered harmless by the active ingredients of rockrose. We still have to wait for the final scientific statements, but the first study results have made cistus a source of new hope for Lyme disease sufferers.
Wild cardoon (Dipsacus) is valued for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. In addition, it is believed to have antiviral activity (against hepatitis B virus and HIV).
Recently, the stimulating effect for bone growth has been tested in animal experiments, as Dipsacus asper is also traditionally used against osteoporosis, back pain and bone fractures. There is also evidence from the laboratory for a benefit against Alzheimer's disease: apparently the saponins and other components protect the nerve cells from the toxicity of the amyloid beta protein. Thus, dipsacus is used as a tonic and anti-aging agent.
The rich content of antioxidants is also used as a justification for this, which is why recently it is also believed to have an effect against arteriosclerosis.
Saponins in higher quantities are toxic to cells and tumors, so in the future it may be possible to isolate an anti-cancer agent from it.
